The following technical information is a brief overview of the materials used and is aimed to help to plan for artwork positioning. We have developed a tool to enable you to print out a pdf of the required laydown for paper over board, and a pdf table for the insert sizes required for the pvc ring binders. We are looking to enhance these tools for the rest of our stationary polypropylene & manila files, folders & ring binders in the near future. We aim to improve our services to you and would relish any feedback you may share to enable Prefs to provide a better service.

Paper Over Board ring binders - & printing etc.

- Most paper over board products are produced using greyboard of varying thickness, 2250 micron being the most popular, and covering in printed paper using an outer (which is printed & laminated 20mm all round larger then the finished size) & an inner (which is plain or printed lamnated or sealed & 4mm smaller all round then the finished case size). 

It is recommended to bleed out the artwork the full 20mm or to bleed out 2mm to allow for wrap round to the edge of the case.

PVC ring binders 

- All Prefs standard PVC ring binders are manufactured from using 2250 micron re-cyled greyboard sandwiched by 350 micron PVC. Our PVC can be screened/litho or digitally printed to give that perfect look, wether it is a single colour or full process colours with additional pantone requirements.  We use 180 micron 'orange peel' clear PVC for self insertion or 140 micron 'orange peel' clear for full encapsulation of printed sheets.

Insert size table for encapsulation and self insertion artwork planning. It is recommended to bleed out 3mm all artwork.

Polypropylene ring binders & document wallets

- Polypropylene comes in many colours and thickness from 200 micron - 1800 micron. Polypropylene is a very inexpensive, durable and easy product to work with and is an ideal material for all types of filing and packaging solutions. It is very adaptable and can be litho printed (up to 1000 micron), foil blocked, screen printed, and digitally printed up to 1800 micron. Manilla & Pressboard files, folders and boxes

- Manilla & Pressboard is most commonly used within the filing industry, and at prefs we specialise in non standard personalised heavy duty files and folders covering a range of clients from social services and local government to architects. Manilla  & pressboard come in several guages and colours. Manilla has 2 grades. It is environmentally friendly and re-cyclable . Manilla and Pressboard can be lithoprinted, screen printed and foil blocked, and we are currently working on its ability to adapt to digital print. Our current supplier of manilla are accredit to the FSA.
