Ring Mechanisms

There are literally hundreds of ring mechanisms available to meet your requirements. From a simple 2 round ring 20mm capacity mechanisms for your university project to a 180mm  super mechanism, used in the pattern book industry to 4 post lock mechanism used for aircraft / shipping log books etc and those all important documents.

Most of the ring mechanisms are made from nickel, which are light, strong and inexpensive. The variety available is both daunting and extensive, and at Prefs with our experience and knowledge we aim to make the choices simple and informative.

In brief there are 3 standard shape of ring mechanism – the ‘D’ ring, the ‘O’ ring and the ‘Q’ Ring, commonly available in 2/3/4/6 rings and have 4 main base lengths to accommodate A3/A4/A5 plus American Quarto & filofax sizes. Most requirements can be met to match the number of rings, capacity and shape of mechanism. The most popular ring mechanism is the ‘D’ ring, so called because it is shaped like a reversed capital D, with the straight edge the part that is required to hold the documents. The round ring or ‘O’ ring as it is more commonly known, is ideal for the smaller product style filo-fax files & easle binders, where it is easy to turn over pages. The 'Q' ring more commonly known as the Arch ring is commonly used as a more sturdy alternative to the ‘D’ ring, ideal for longer term filing.

Then we have the Lever Arch ring mechanism associated with the lever Arch files come in 3 capacities, approximately holding 38mm/58mm and 65mm of paper & dividers. They come complete with a compressor, and have a lever operation for ease of opening and closing.

All of our ring mechanisms can be powder coated to meet your personalised requirements. For further images and ideas please view our accessorize page.
